UofL students, Louisville youth, and community leaders will team up in the historic Parkland neighborhood for service alongside Wes Moore. Participants will receive a free t-shirt and light dinner.  Space is limited, so please register only if you know you can attend.  Community partners include West End School, Network Center for Community Change, Parkland Boys and Girls Club, and District 1 Councilwoman Attica Scott’s office.  In order to participate, you must be free for the entire program from 2 – 6:15 PM. 

All registered attendees will check in and depart from the Floyd Theatre on bus transportation provided by UofL.  Please try to check in by 1:45 PM that afternoon.  Service will begin at West End School for an introduction to the community partners and brief training. Then teams will hit the Parkland community, canvassing the neighborhood as they make their way on foot to the Parkland Boys and Girls Club, where dinner and concluding activities will take place.  All participants will return no later than 6:30 PM.  Any SOUL participant also registered for the Wes Moore keynote will enjoy a reserved seat at that lecture.

Other Event Information

Do I need to bring my printed registration ticket to SOUL? It’s very helpful if you print and bring your ticket but you don’t have to.

When and where do I check in? We’ll be on a tight schedule, so please check in at the Floyd Theatre in the Student Activities Center by 1:45 PM that afternoon if at all possible. If you have not arrived by 2 PM we reserve the right to offer your spot to a walk-in registrant if you have not notified us in your registration that you’re coming from class.  The group will leave the Floyd no later than 2:10 PM. 

What if I have class until 1:50 PM that day? You can still participate!  Just note that in your registration and check in at the Floyd Theatre immediately after class. 

What if I can’t stay the whole time? Unfortunately, you need to be able to attend the entire event. Stay tuned to www.louisville.edu/leadership for upcoming opportunities that might be a better fit with your schedule.

What should I wear? Dress for mess and wear close-toed shoes. We will be outside. 

T-shirts: We want you to have the free Wes Moore SOUL t-shirt but we’ll need your registration by September 7^th to be sure we can get you the correct size.

Cancellations: If you reserve a SOUL spot and then cannot attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or email leaders@louisville.edu so that we may offer your spot to an individual on our waiting list.
